Tyer Profile
Age : classified ,
Fish with teeth, that’s what im about. I was bought up from the age of 7 on the banks of the river tweed within the duke of roxburghs estate, which is where I learned to fly fish as a young boy catching wild brown trout and sea trout and the odd salmon.
I also learned to tie flies from a young age. I had no money to buy flies and living on a sporting estate there was always plenty of fur and feathers around free of charge .
I have been fly fishing for pike for more years than I care to remember and was probably among the first very small group of people in the UK to do it.
My younger days as a boy fly tier for trout bode well for tying pike flies in later life. Although at that time there wasn't much available for the pike fly tier and I had to take lead from American tiers like bob Veverka and other across the pond tiers for ideas. Adapting flies for stripers and other American species like largemouth bass for our own needs. I'm damn proud to be a member of the Deer Creek Pro Team and part of a forward thinking company who lead the way in new materials and technologies.
My motto is – ya cannie catch a fish if youve na a flee in the water
