FLY FILM FEST UK 2015 FILMS
It's inspiring to see new film festivals springing up, and none more so than the Fly Film Fest - clearly a hotbed for new talent which I hope will continue to grow...
Thank you to ALL the film makers for letting me watch your films. I'd like to take some time to mention each of the films from this years short list ...
One of the secrets to a good film is giving the audience a sense of place and atmosphere. FISHING THE LOUGH MASK did exactly that. A lovely film with a strong and imaginative use of voice giving us a lesson in the simple wonder of fishing... watch it, it's a great way to spend 7 minutes of your time.

A fantastic film with big screen production values. Salmon Junkies is a lesson in how to combine the look of an epic film with the intimacy of character led storytelling. I was immediately captured by the central character and how he led us through his world. This is a film worthy of a wide audience.

A beautifully made observational film which gives us both an insight into the duo's experiences and at times lets us step in their shoes. I felt what it was like to be on that boat - the sign of good storytelling and skillful film making ...
The mark of a really good film is when you don't understand a word thats being said but still enjoy it!! With SALMON FISHING LAERDAL I wanted to be along on the ride. This is a buddy movie at it's best, well put together and with a great spirit of adventure at its heart ..
A title that drew me in and I wasn't disappointed. A stylish and meditative film with beautiful visuals. If Sigur Ros ever want to make a fishing film these guys could probably do it ...

Another film with stunning visuals and super production values. A fascinating tale using a strong cast of characters who bring their environment to life. The film makers passion for this culture is perfectly reflected by clear storytelling and the characters personal journeys.
This is a film with great production values and inventive camera work and editing ... I loved how the mood of the film changed, reflecting the changing face and challenges of river fishing. The use of sound and silence was very nicely done. A film of contrasts which kept me engaged all the way through.

Welcome to Kamchatka 9:07 minutes
Kamchatka is one of those spellbinding places we all dream of going to. Thank you to Daniella Misteli who took us there with her film WELCOME TO KAMCHATKA , giving us a great flavour of the place. A fun and enjoyable watch which made me want to see where else she goes.
