Paula Smyth
My two main interests, hobbies are fishing and fly tying, focusing mainly on saltwater species. I feel very lucky and fortunate to live on the doorstep of the very beautiful and scenic Strangford Lough in Northern Ireland, and it is here were I spend most of my time during the summer months fishing for Seatrout and Mullet. I am also a club member of a local river where I live and I enjoy spending time down at the river bank during the season targeting brown trout as well as thick lipped mullet which come up with the tide to feed.
I enjoy many different types of fishing ranging from dry fly fishing for trout, lure fishing for Bass to float fishing for Pollack or Wrasse but SWFF - Salt Water Fly Fishing is where my main passion lies. My favourite species to target are Bass, Mullet and Seatrout.
I began fishing at an early age, my first fishing trip was with my Dad at the age of four and from then on I was hooked. I fell in love with the sport and have continued to do it ever since.
I have been fly tying for a couple of years now and I really enjoy my time at the vice. I started off tying small trout flies, moving onto saltwater, pike and other predator patterns. My favourite fly pattern to tie is a Baitfish Imitation which I will be demonstrating at the show.
I made my fly tying debut earlier this year at The Irish International Fly Fair and since then I have tied at a number of other shows including The North West Game and Country Fair, Fish Fest, The Maine Rivers Trust and several Loughs Agency fly tying events. And next month I will be on fly tyers row at the Irish Fly Fair in Galway. In the past I have also worked on exhibitors stands at the Irish Fly Fair and the Ireland Angling Expo which I really enjoyed. Being part of angling shows such as these was a great opportunity for me as they enabled me to meet with fellow fly tiers, share and swap ideas, gain valuable experience and as a result increasing my knowledge and awareness of the various aspects and disciplines within the sport.
My partner and I have recently launched our own range of fly tying materials, CSF - Chasing Silver Flies, which are available on our online shop: www.chasingsilverflies.com

I feel both very honoured and excited to be part of Fly Fest 2015. It is a show not to be missed and so hopefully I will see you there, if so please come over and say hello.
